Law Enforcement Leaders Praise Magnus Confirmation
WASHINGTON, D.C. — On a 50-47 bipartisan vote Tuesday, the Senate confirmed Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus, a longtime member of the Law Enforcement Immigration Task Force (LEITF), as commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
In July, more than 65 law enforcement leaders signed a letter urging senators to confirm Magnus quickly.
Below are quotes from LEITF leaders following Magnus’s confirmation:
Chief Andy Harvey (Pharr, Texas): “The confirmation of Chief Magnus is a positive step for our nation’s security and treatment of immigrants. In leading Customs and Border Protection, he will advocate for policies that promote law enforcement’s ability to protect all members of their communities, including immigrants.”
Chief Brian Kyes (Chelsea, Massachusetts): “Chief Magnus has been a longtime advocate for fair and humane immigration policies. He understands the importance of community trust and cooperation to ensure public safety and will bring this perspective to Customs and Border Protection.”
LEITF Co-chair Chief Orlando Rolón (Orlando, Florida): “Chief Magnus’s exemplary experience makes him an excellent choice to lead CBP.”
