Law Enforcement Leaders React to Migrant Tragedy in San Antonio

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Monday nearly 100 migrants were found in an abandoned semitrailer in San Antonio. Subject to extreme heat and other inhumane conditions, at least 50 migrants have died and others are in critical condition.

Law Enforcement Immigration Task Force (LEITF) leaders offer their condolences to the victims and their families. Leaders also call for this tragedy to move Congress to enact meaningful immigration reform.

“What happened in San Antonio is heartbreaking,” said LEITF Co-Chair Chief Orlando Rolón, Orlando, Florida. “It is also proof that many human beings are desperate enough to use unthinkable means to find a better life in this country. This makes them more vulnerable to smugglers and dangerous conditions along the border.

“By reforming our immigration system and doing more to help our neighboring countries prosper, Congress can help prevent additional tragedies.”
